the texas toad hop

Lily pointed out this big guy when he showed up at our front door the other night. He sat for a paparazzi-style flash photograph...

and then he hopped away.

dancing in the blueberry patch

Thursday when I went to the fruit market they again had large boxes of bananas for $1.00 a box. At the time I couldn't face the thought of working with that many bananas again. I shared my banana regrets with Beverly, my kitchen aid, when I returned home. The next morning we both shared that we felt we shouldn't pass up such a good buy regardless of our recent banana-burnout incident. I had to run Jay to Sears to pick up his work van Friday morning so decided to stop at the market for bananas on my way home....just after 8 AM....not my typical fruit marketing time. What a blessing that Yahweh sent me there at such an early hour. In the clearance corner I found Canadian blueberries. I came home with 30 boxes of blueberries for 5 dollars!

Beverly and I sorted through and picked out bad berries then she worked at dehydrating and freezing while I made blueberry pie for our Sabbath dinner. Yummm.

Me, offering to Jay the chance to lick spoon while he was on the garage roof photographing the setting sun.

all grown up and no where to go

The baby chicks are growing fast. They are living under the chicken coop while the big birds have the run on the yard and the inside of the coop. I believe the one on the left is a rooster and the others are hens. I'm hoping to trade in the old rooster for this newer model as our current rooster picks on Lily. We lost one chick, Beaker, in a bad rain storm. I think all the other chicks piled on top of him. If we can raise the remaining hen to laying age we'll have 14 laying hens.

This morning I went out and photographed the sky in each direction....

...and the surprise when I came around the corner of the house....a coyote walking up the road from the wash.

old dance, new dance

Because my camera was injured on our last trip to Mexico I've been looking for a replacement. Found the same camera, at half the price I payed last year, on ebay. It's not quite as exciting getting a camera that I've already owned but it is nice to have my shooting ability back. I've determined to treat it as if it was new-new and allow myself to discover elements of the camera that I had not explored yet.

ballerina lilly

Lily had an accident yesterday and ripped the dewclaw on her front leg. It's been pretty sore but the incident has left her with a very graceful looking ballet toe point.

jay and carolyn's amazing cross country adventure: homeward bound

On our way home we were able to visit with friends and family in Lincoln, Nebraska, Denver, Albuquerque, and Payson, Arizona.

5,000 miles, 12 tanks of gas, and 19 days later....home sweet home.

jay and carolyn's amazing cross country adventure: day 8, 9, 10

The remainder of the week on the East side of Michigan consisted of multiple trips to the Cook's farm for lunch and dinner dates, a walk in the woods with Val and Gus, a potluck meal with friends from church, a all-girl Salvation Army shopping trip, and more blueberry picking. I had a chance to meet Aaron's fiance, Lauren when we had Chinese food at Pi's. Naomi, Logan and I had a yummy lunch topped off with concrete mixers at Cluver's and then a stop at TSC for farmer-type shopping. Brian, Betsy and I enjoyed the buffet at Pizza Hut and Julie and I had a private dinner date at Antonio's. No wonder I came back heavier than when we left for vacation.

I enjoyed photographing the colorful things growing in the woods as we walked the trail in Sanford with Val and Grumpy-Gus.

P.S. Thanks to my very understanding husband who allow me both time away from him and finances needed to in order to connect with my nieces and nephews.

jay and carolyn's amazing cross country adventure: day 7

Throughout the week I scheduled lunch and dinner dates with my nieces and nephews. My camera's recent accident that left it disabled discouraged my photography during the trip but the day the Amy, Libby and I spent together did get well documented.

Of course there was lots of blueberry picking and eating while we visited the Blueberry Barn.

After having lunch at the Railside Cafe in Sanford we went exploring interesting places to photograph.

I even got a turn with Amy's nice camera.

Knowing Amy's attraction to water we decided to visit the Sanford beach. It was a warm day and didn't take much to get Amy in the water.

Even the lack of small children to justify playing in the spray park was not a deterrent for this water lover.
