hitch hiker
Lily and I had company on our Silly hike today. Natale joined us for a taste of hiking in the desert. We only got a quarter of the way before our time was up but she was ready to climb to the top. Next time. The weather has been very pleasing so our little desert jaunt was a nice way to end our school day.

sunset on silly
It's finally cool enough to stomp our way up Silly Mountain again. Yeah!
Jay, Lily and I went together on Saturday morning and did a good share of running. My legs felt like jello afterward.
Today it was just Lily and me, along with the clicker. I wanted to hike and shoot during the hour that the wedding will take place (in less than two weeks-yikes! the panic is setting in). I experimented with settings and angles and light as the sun sank toward the horizon. Lily patiently modeled for me when we stopped again and again as we made our trek over Ol' Silly.

strange but true
Most of the time the weather forecast for the valley is fairly mundane, sunny and warm with the fluctuating factor being just how warm. Yet I have found that when storms do come they often have an unusual flair that captures my attention. Thursday morning the sky was trying to spit some rain but it wasn't 'til late afternoon when there was enough moisture falling to take notice. When the first drops fell the sun was shining brightly but starting its decent toward the horizon. I stood under the carport and attempted to capture the raindrops sparkling as they fell. Back in the dry kitchen I figured I should check what was happening on the mountain side of the view (it is not unusual when we get rain to find a rainbow or two sprawled across the mountain). Yup, there it was but this time the rainbow as contained in the clouds while the blue sky next door pretended that it was a typically sunny day.
Sunset arrived before the rain finished and the mountains, still clinging to the rainbow, along with the surrounding clouds turned an eerie orangish hue.
The neighbors across the street were wanted to come look for gold at our house, from their view the rainbow seemed to end in our backyard.
And the sun went down, the close of another photo-op day in the Valley of the Sun.

dancing on the rim
On our way down the mountain Jay stopped so we could hike on the Mogolion Rim. There were some amazing views along with interesting blooms.

dancing in the yellow
Last week we celebrated Feast of Tabernacles with our fellow Hebrew roots followers. We spent 10 days (it's an eight day celebration but the first and last days are high holy days so days 9 and 10 were setup/tear down/travel days) at a campground just outside Show Low Arizona at about 6,000 feet elevation. Pine, Oak and Cottonwood trees, warm sunny weather, blue skies, puffy white clouds, a small lake and a picturesque stream all added up to a delightful experience and some inspiring nature photos. Many of my photos included this cute little yellow flower that kept drawing my attention begging to be photographed. I tried to pick my favorites but had a difficult time narrowing it down to fewer than these.
