silly lily: roof, roof

Last weekend we visited our friends who own a date farm. While we were there Jay helped them get their swamp cooler (cooling system) up and running. As is typical when Jay is working outdoors, Lily went with him where ever he went...including up and down on the roof.

While on the roof she supervised the work...

Did some scouting for lizards...

And walked the peak of the roof.

silent excuses: regional recipie

One morning was spent on making salad for a potluck we attended. I decided on potato salad because we had lots of eggs (thanks chickens) and because if I want good potato salad (which you know I like) I have to make it myself with grandma's recipe.

When we were laying out the food our instructor looked at the bowl and exclaimed, "Oh, old fashioned potato salad".
"No" I replied, "Not old fashioned, potato salad with my mother's recipe".
After we sat down one and started enjoying our food one of the eaters asked me, "Where are you originally from."
"Michigan" my reply.
"What part of Michigan?"
"Midland".
"I wondered. I'm from Flint and this potato salad tastes just like my mother used to make."

silent excuses: banana bargin

When I went to the fruit market they had 3 boxes of ripe bananas for $2.50 each. It took me the better part of one morning to peel, cut, bag, and freeze those puppies!

lizard weather

It's been several months since we've see any lizards...they slept away the chilly months....but now that the sun is warming the desert they have re-emerged and can be seen fairly regularly. Lily loves to chase the little guys and has been know to spend hours at a single bush where she knows a lizard is hiding. Luckily, they are pretty good escape artists. This little guy was spotted (get it?) during our hike on Tuesday at Lost Dutchman State Park. I put my camera on a preset for flowers and crept as close as I could without spooking him. I was surprised when I looked at the picture and saw he had orange spots-he was small enough that from a distance he just looked desert brown.
