GRAND canyon FINALE

On day two of of Grand Canyon adventure we explored the village area including the Hopi House where we watched a bird dance performed by a Native American.

We walked through the hotel and admired large animal heads displayed on the wall as well as learned some of the history of canyon and the first tourists that visited.

We explored the gift shops and discovered some literature with thought provoking titles...

Took pictures of each other and had our picture taken together...

And of course enjoy more of God's breath taking creation (and I mean that literally when you walk up hill at 7,000 feet above sea level).

...until the battery in the camera died (because I was too tired to bother with recharging it the night before).

dancing on the rim

Part two of Grand Canyon photos...

There were some interesting rock formations....

There were places that looked smooth and green as if it were a manicure golf course.

We saw the very large California Condor and other birds enjoying riding the air waves.

We found a nice place to sit and watch the colors change and shadows move as the sun set.

My favorite shots turned out to be those that had trees in the foreground framing the canyon.

What a grand time we had...

grand dance in the canyon

Last week I spent two days with my friend Grace at the Grand Canyon. While Grace "Oooohhhed" and "Aaaahhhhhed" I snapped and snipped and snupped photos as fast as I could.

The following are a few of my favorites from our first stop at the Watchtower....

One of the things that Grace and I noted was the quiet "awe" of the canyon. Even when we were in places were there was a large group of people there was a hush as individuals marveled at the grander.

I found viewing the canyon played tricks with my depth perception. As we stood on the rim and looked over the vast expanse
it felt as if I could reach out and almost touch the rim on the opposite side.

We had beautiful weather, sunny with a little breeze. There were still puddles of snow in the shady places.

We marveled at the color palate. I imagine God had a good day painting the day he made the canyon.

We were blessed to find scripture displayed in several places. What an appropriate way to acknowledge the artist.

Inside the tower there was a "black mirror" that reflected the true colors of the canyon. Grace shot this picture of me looking into the mirror.

more photos tomorrow....

dancing with laughter

If laughter is good medicine...

then my brother, Keith, and I had a good dose the other day when he came downstairs dressed in a large shirt and a big pair of jeans and stuffed with pillows. We were both doubled over with laughter, eyes watering, hardly able to speak. When he finally recovered a bit Keith said, " I make a good looking fat person, don't you think?"

Keith is staying with us a couple of months while he studies to take the Texas teachers exam.
