While I am content just hiking through nature, Jay likes a hike that has some type of adventure at the end of the trail. Several weeks ago someone pointed out a large cave off the Peralta trail and he's been itching to explore it ever since. This afternoon Jay and David, Lily and I set out to scratch that itch.

The destination: the cave is a long slit at the right of the picture just below the sheer rock cliffs.

Although some of the trail was difficult to determine this trail maker was hard to miss.

The boys carried tent and bedding in their backpacks with plans to spend the night in the cave. The girls (Lily and I) carried snacks and camera in our pack and made plans to spend the night in our own soft, warm beds.

I'm not sure what this flower looked like in full bloom but the dried version reminded me of something out of a Dr. Seuss book.

David and Jay climb to the top of an outcrop to determine which way to go next.

Very cool striped rock.

I took this shot after we parted ways, Girls going back down and boys headed further up.

A closer shot of the cave (center).

When this photo is full screen size you can just make out a person standing on the "tongue" rock jutting out in front of the cave.
