book report # 2
Due to the fact that the reading part is much more enjoyable for me than the writing part I'm already behind of my book reports and I've only just started. Guess the old adage; better late than never, applies here.

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld.
I picked this sci fi up at the yard sale. It was a quick, fun read and like a lot of Science Fiction causes the reader to think about things outside of the paradigm.
Uglies takes place in the future, after our planet has been trashed. The reorganized, advanced, green civilization has people move through 5 phases of life: littlies, uglies, pretties, middles, and crumblies. All phases are overseen by the "specials". The main character, Tally, is an exceptionally gifted Ugly awaiting the arrival of her 16th birthday when she will undergo the surgery that will make her pretty. In the last weeks before the surgery she learns of a renegade rebel group of uglies who have run away and established their own Sherwood Forest-type community. She is blackmailed by the Specials into infiltrating "The Smoke" but once there she learns that the surgery that makes one pretty leaves lesions on the brain that affect reasoning.
Action packed and Thought provoking, it wasn't until the end of the book that I found there are three more books in this series before I can rest knowing the conclusion.

two tense
On Friday Jay hitched up the flatbed trailer and picked up the first teepee.
On Saturday he picked up the second teepee and delivered it to the grassy knoll in front of Phoenix First Assembly where the pow wow will take place this week during pastor's school.
Sunday afternoon, while I spent 3 hours practicing our dances with the women, Jay and several other men put together the two large stick puzzles.

happy box
When we returned from Sierra Vista on Sunday afternoon I found a mystery package had been delivered. Actually, I wasn't surprised by the box itself. Our new senior friend, Mary, after visiting our house for a worship evening, had called to tell us she was sending something our way.
I was, however, clueless as to what the box contained.
As I struggled though layers of packing tape box I talked to Lily who was patiently waiting to see if I might be opening something she could eat. I reminded her about the time she got a box of almost empty peanut butter jars in the mail on her birthday. I teased her that maybe this package held a gift for her.
The joke was on me when I opened the box and found a dog house-shaped container full of dog toys.

I grabbed my camera and headed outside with the box to capture Lily as she explored her surprise.
Getting the toys out of the house proved a bit tricky as the door was smaller than her head.
But she proved resourceful and determined as he emptied and examined each of the toys.
She quickly figured out which ones squeaked and determined the squeaky hot dog to be her favorite.
Thanks Mary for the box full of happy!
