One.
One chick.
One lone chick.
That was the end tally of two tries to hatch eggs with an incubator and a final attempt with a broody hen. The chicken sat on 7 eggs. The last three eggs were due to hatch on Friday. When I went out Saturday morning I discovered one little chick under the faithful hen.
Of course, just like baby ducks, you can't have just one. We let our fingers do the walking and discovered an Ace Hardware in Chandler that had 3 day old chicks.
Now my upstairs bathroom, turned chick coop, houses 8 fluffy chicks in a big metal dog crate.
Tessa was staying at her Grandma's in Mesa for one last night before her family leaves for Texas. Grandma Karen brought Tessa over after dinner and she sat with a little red for as long as we would let her. She snuggled, and kisses, and examined and delighted in every aspect of the baby chick.
