dancing at passover

caution: this post contains gross photography....read at your own risk.

Our passover celebration (the first one) was held outdoors in Queen Creek on Wednesday evening. There were over 100 people in attendance.

The big deal about this specific passover is that the lamb was live Wednesday morning, killed and dressed using Kosher methods at 1:00, and roasted over open fire all afternoon. I wasn't looking forward to the butchering but the people who I went with wanted to see the whole process. It was...well...interesting. Because there were so many people I only took a small sample of the meat but it was delicious.

The organizers made special effort to include the children in the celebration.

They had two people dressed up as Moses and Aaron who told the story of the ten plagues and had the children do actions for each plague. Later, during the program they retold the story with the children's help. They also had stations with games for each of the plagues.

During the program we sang a fun song our host had written. It was sung to the tune of The Twelve Days of Christmas. The last verse goes:

For the 10th plague on Egypt, Yahweh gave to Pharaoh,
first born a dyin',
3 days of darkness,
garden eating locust,
hail and fire on the land,
boils upon their faces,
DISEASE ON ALL THEIR LIVESTOCK,
flies as thick as darkness,
swarms of biting lice,
herds of croaking frogs,
and the Nile river running with blood.
